Pick Your Lane

The Power of Creating Instead of Conforming
1
‘Ebb & Flow” Imagined and Created by Carolina Migliaccio

They kept telling me to pick a lane.

In college.
In corporate.
Even in conversations with people who meant well but didn’t understand how I’m wired.

Pick one thing.
Stick with it.
Master it.

But what if the way I’m built is meant to connect the dots — not collapse them?

I’m at my best when I’m bridging — not narrowing.
When I’m allowed to move between disciplines, perspectives, and possibilities.
When I’m not forced into someone else’s definition of focus — but trusted to create my own rhythm of depth and direction.

Let me be clear: I believe in mastery.
I believe in presence, in depth, in discernment.
But I also believe in range. In creative combustion.
In the kind of wisdom that doesn’t come from staying in one lane, but from designing your own road entirely.

I don’t do well with sameness.
One task. One title. One way of working — every day, all day?
That’s when I disconnect. That’s when the light starts to dim.

But give me variety —
of thought, of space, of how I show up —
and I come alive.

That’s when I go all in.
That’s when I focus, not because I have to, but because I want to.

Creativity fuels me.
Strategy grounds me.
Purpose aligns me.

So no — I’m not here to pick a lane.

I’m here to pick my lane.
To pave it. Name it. Walk it with soul and sovereignty.

And maybe you’re here for that, too.

Not the prescribed path.
But the path that was always yours — even before you had the words for it.

The question isn’t can you do it.
The question is — are you willing?

Because if you are, I’ll walk with you.

Let’s build what they said was impossible.

Together.

Author’s Note:
I wrote this for every visionary who’s ever been told to “stay in your lane.”
For every multi-dimensional leader who’s been asked to simplify their brilliance to fit someone else’s frame.
This piece is a reclamation — of range, of rhythm, of the right to design a life that reflects all of who you are.

Not everyone will get it.

But the ones who do?
They’ve already started building their own road.
